Silk was born in Fredericton in New Brunswick Canada. Ilkay is the daughter Peter who is an educator as well as an accomplished actress and playwright. Peter was educated at St. Thomas University. Anna holds some first memories of watching and going to rehearsals of plays. Silk featured in a few commercials where she was featured at a young age. She earned a Bachelor's degree in Arts from St. Thomas University in 1997. Theatre St. Thomas was active in at least two productions in the theater's early days that included Seven Menus (1997) and The Kitchen (1999). Silk relocated to Toronto in order to perform and advance in November, 1999. The following decade saw her move to Los Angeles. She met her future husband, Seth Cooperman, at an Actor's workshop located in Los Angeles, in 2007. They were engaged in 2009 and were they were married at a civil ceremony in the month of December in that same year. The couple reaffirmed their vows on April 10, 2011, in Fredericton in a Jewish service after she became Jewish.
